Six Gulf nations unite to launch the GCC Visa, aiming to boost regional travel and mirror the Schengen Area’s ease of movement.

At the recent Arabian Travel Market, Khalid Jasim Al Midfa of the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Authority disclosed plans for a unified GCC tourist visa system, set to launch by year’s end. He emphasized the integration of e-services to combine ease of use with high security standards and shared his enthusiasm for the initiative’s potential to boost regional economic growth during a panel with fellow tourism leaders.

In related developments, UAE Minister of Economy Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri introduced the upcoming regional tourist visas as “GCC Grand Tours,” which will permit visitors over 30 days of travel across the six GCC nations. He highlighted that these visas would enhance the accessibility and affordability of travel within the region.

Following deliberations at the World Economic Forum in Riyadh, Al Marri noted the new visa system would enhance the appeal of GCC as diverse tourist destinations, encouraging longer stays and increasing hotel occupancy rates. This effort is expected to elevate the region’s status as a premier tourist destination globally and regionally.

Al Midfa also reported ongoing collaborations between the UAE, other Gulf nations, and leading tourism firms to roll out comprehensive regional travel packages. These discussions extend to partnerships with hotels and airlines to streamline travel experiences. The upcoming single GCC tourist visa is anticipated to spur the introduction of integrated travel packages from the private sector.

Additionally, the initiative aims to extend visitor stays in the UAE, with plans for two to three-week leisure trips across the GCC. The strategy includes coordinating major events to prevent scheduling conflicts. Upon implementation, the single visa will facilitate both leisure and business travel via packages offered by the private sector.

Sarah Buhijji, CEO of Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority, also shared that Bahrain is crafting similar regional packages, allowing tourists to enjoy three nights in Bahrain before traveling to Oman and Saudi Arabia. The effort includes a marketing push to portray the entire region as a unified destination, supported by a Memorandum of Understanding with Saudi Arabia to promote mutual tourism and plans for similar agreements with other regional countries.
